Fiddles & Fifths

Join us for our third annual Fiddles & Fifths Bluegrass and Bourbon Festival on Saturday, September 14 in the heart of Old Town Winchester, VA! We’ve partnered with our awesome friends at Bright Box and The Monument for this year’s event to bring you some fantastic musical acts:

Headlining the stage at Bright Box is 3-time International Bluegrass Music Association Vocal Group of the Year Sister Sadie. Raging hot bluegrass combined with breathtaking instrumental drive and awe-inspiring vocals. Rooted in forceful and tight vocal harmonies, this isn’t your granddaddy’s Appalachian high lonesome sound. This is something far more powerful than that—it’s the sound of the mountains themselves.

Headlining the stage at The Monument is high-powered country and bluegrass outfit The Wilson Springs Hotel. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, the group’s sets flow from slow & somber crooner country, to rippin’ honky tonk, to hard hitting folk influenced rock, thru almost psych-rock like guitar tones and back again.

Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Woody Woodworth & The Piners are part of the newest revival of country music in Virginia. Established in 2016, the Piners are named for the bygone expression to Pine – a deep longing for something or someone. Influenced by Virginia’s deep musical history and Appalachian culture, Woody Woodworth & The Piners fuse storytelling with country, bluegrass, and rock and roll to create a sound that can be described as Appalachian alt-country with a steady shot of southern rock.

New this year is our Broken Window Brewing Co. stage featuring three incredible bands:

Established in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Palmyra explores the fusion of traditional folk string instruments, lush harmony, and earnest songwriting. The trio, now based in Richmond, captures the collective spirit of three Virginia natives: Teddy Chipouras, Mānoa Bell, and Sasha Landon. Often described as a distant cousin to The Avett Brothers and The Wood Brothers, Palmyra nods toward Appalachian and Midwestern Americana, with intricate arrangements that create the illusion of a full, larger-than-three ensemble.

Born and raised in Knoxville, TN, Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson of songwriter duo The Montvales spent much of their formative years busking amidst the Elvis impersonators and musical saw players of the town’s Market Square, honing their uniquely boisterous harmonies and driving, joyful sound. The two now make their home in Cincinnati, OH, spending their days touring extensively and crafting intimate, storytelling-driven songs that explore the joys and perils of self-determination.

The Shade Tree Collective’s hard-driving bluegrass and innovative originals unite audiences with energy and enthusiasm. Stemming from the Old Line State and expanding with musicians and influences from Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and beyond, The Shade Tree Collective makes audiences everywhere whoop and holler, bringing people together for a bluegrass experience they won’t soon forget.

Plus, a fantastic variety of food trucks, a beer garden featuring our amazing local breweries and cideries, and of course, plenty of bourbon! Festivalgoers will need a wristband ($25 in advance/$35 day of) for entry to Bright Box and The Monument (one wristband gets you into both venues), but the rest of the festival is free and open to the public. Tickets on sale now!
