Old Town Winchester is excited to announce the return of the Edward Jones Rockin’ Independence Eve on Thursday, July 3rd, on the Old Town Walking Mall from 5-11 pm! This patriotic event features an evening full of free quality family-friendly entertainment and fireworks!
While you are in Old Town, remember to visit our local businesses! Many will be open during the evening’s celebrations!
LIVE MUSIC: Enjoy live music at the Shenandoah University Feltner Parking Lot, on the corner of N. Loudoun and E. Boscawen Streets, by Winchester’s own Britani Myers at 5:30 pm. At 7:30 pm will be two-time American Idol Hollywood finalist Christian Lopez Band (CLB), hailing from Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Rockin Independence Eve will also feature a beer and wine garden (sales benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters), Snow White Grill hamburger eating contest, a cornhole tournament by Tailgate Giant, activities for children of all ages, and no Independence Day celebration would be complete without an outstanding fireworks show which begins at 9:15 pm.
Adding to the atmosphere, on Loudoun Street there will be lots of free entertainment including acoustic performers, balloon art, a caricature artist, magician and more. Come dressed in red, white, and blue for the Show your Stars and Stripes costume contest with a prize of tickets to a future event. There will be plenty of fun activities and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy! At the conclusion of the fireworks the music will pick back up and CLB will perform until 10:30 pm.
“FIREWORKS TAILGATE PARTY”: Win a tailgate party for you and 20 of your friends and family! Seats will be reserved at the OakCrest Parking Lot (next to the Winchester Star). Pizza and sodas will be provided and winner can bring food and drinks to parking lot, alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Lot will be available at 7:30 pm with fireworkds tentatively planned to be fired off at 9:15 pm. CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT: The cornhole tournament will be happening on the lawn of the Old Courthouse Civil War Museum. The cost will be $10 per team of two. The prizes are to be determined and the tournament will begin tentatively at 6:00 pm. Registration at the Tailgate Giant tent located on the Courthouse lawn.
SNOW WHTIE GRILL HAMBURGER EATING CONTEST: Contest will begin at 7:15 pm in front of the stage on the Shenandoah University Feltner Parking Lot. The object is to eat 10 hamburgers & buns, with water as the only beverage, as quickly as they can. The first contestant to finish all 10 hamburgers and buns wins the contest and receives a gift certicficate to Snow White Grill as well as tickets to future downtown events! People interested in participating in the contest must be 18 and over, and can register day of at the information booth located on the walking mall.
SHOW YOUR STARS & STRIPES COSTUME CONTEST: The costume contest will be happening at the conclusion of the Snow White Grill Hamburger Eating Contest (roughly around 7:25 pm). The winner will be chosen by crowd noise. People interested in participating in the contest can register day of at the information booth.
FIREWORKS: Fireworks can best be seen next to the OakCrest Companies and the Winchester Star on Kent Street which will be blocked for the occasion. Parking garage rooftops will be closed by order of the Parking Authority but all other levels of the garages will be available for parking for a flat rate of $5 starting at 5 p.m. For those wanting rooftop viewing, the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum is currently selling tickets for $10 per person including light refreshments for firework viewing on their beautiful roof top deck on Cork Street. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
This event will not be postponed in the event of rain.
