Blue Ridge Singers, an acclaimed chamber choir, concludes its tenth season with “Oh, What a Glorious Day!” under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey M. Alban. This spring concert series is based on the opening text of Jake Runestad’s choral setting of the poem, “Come to the Woods” by John Muir. Dr. Alban remarks, “We have juxtaposed ”Come to the Woods” with other compositions based on the theme of Joy and Psalm 150, Laudate Dominum – Praise the Lord. These pieces are quite a contrast to Runestad’s compositional style and include works from 16th, 19th, and 20th centuries.” Composers include Palestrina, Schubert, Parry, Finzi, Aquiar, Wilberg, Kirchner, and Hampton. Mack Wilberg’s “Shenandoah” offers piano four hands for which guest pianist Elaine Wright joins accompanist Dan Miller.
