Artscape 2019 is now on display on the Old Town Winchester Pedestrian Mall. The art exhibit includes works of art created by regional artists that are displayed on banners along the mall. Each of the banners is sponsored by a local business.
“This year we celebrate ten beautiful years in making the Old Town Walking Mall an even more fabulous space to explore. A special thank you to all the artists that submitted works to be juried,” the Shenandoah Arts Council writes. “The jury was overwhelmed by the amazing talent. We also thank our wonderful sponsors, several faithful patrons and others new to the experience. This outdoor gallery is also made possible by the VA Commission of the Arts (VCA), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the Old Town Advancement Commission (OTAC). A collaboration to enhance the beauty of downtown brings together many people who have a passion for keeping the Arts alive and well.”
In 2009, the Shenandoah Arts Council and the Old Town Development Board joined together to launch ArtScape in Old Town Winchester in an effort to celebrate our arts community, to showcase our very talented regional artists and to brighten and enliven Winchester’s historic downtown district.
Artisans of all ages, both professional and emerging artists, are invited to participate in the juried annual competition. It is the only public art project of its kind in the entire Commonwealth of Virginia. ArtScape in Old Town Winchester is made possible by the sponsors, generous contributions of Winchester businesses, private citizens and the arts community.
