Happening This Weekend

Friday, April 24th:

Apple Blossom Festival: The Apple Blossom Festival is a series of more than thirty events including: band competitions, dances, parades, carnival, circus, dinners, luncheons, a 10K Race, the Coronation of Queen Shenandoah, Firefighters’ events, and celebrities. The Festival is an event the whole family can enjoy.

United Bank Bloomin’ Wine Fest 2015: Enjoy live entertainment, great food, spectacular Virginia wines, and wonderful company. Join us to “Uncork the Bloom” at the United Bank Bloomin’ Wine Fest, the official kick-off of the 88th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. This truly unique outdoor wine festival is situated in downtown Winchester’s original marketplace. There will be three distinctive wine gardens nestled between centuries old buildings and Virginia’s first pedestrian mall.

The event features 20 of Virginia’s finest wineries offering wine tastings and wines sold by the glass or bottle and craft beers to taste and purchase by the glass. There will also be artisans bringing their own special flair, tasty Festival foods, and three stages presenting regional musical talents.

The two-day event is from 3 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 24 (tasting will end at 9:30 p.m.) and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 (tasting will end at 5:30 p.m.). Sales of unopened bottles and cases will be available until close each day.

Alluring: A Jewelry Exhibition: The Gray Gallery hosts an exhibition of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted jewelry. Six exquisite jewelry artists from around the region display there own style and influences through the necklaces, rings, brooches and bracelets. The opening reception invites the public to preview the artwork with a special pink and green event on April 24, 2014 from 6pm to 8pm.

Robbie Limon LIVE in The Half Note Lounge: Robbie Limon performs in the 70’s era singer/songwriter style at the George Washington Hotel’s Half Note Lounge from 8pm to 10pm.

BRIGHT BOX COMEDY: Timmy Hall and Dennis Ross: Bright Box Theater and Kaleidoscope Comedy continue to bring you the funniest stand up comedians in the business! For the month of April Bright Box features the hilarious talents of Timmy Hall and Dennis Ross. Doors at 7:30pm (7pm for VIP seating), show at 8:30pm. Bright Box is general admission. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Arrive early to choose your favorite seat and to grab a bite to eat. Tickets and more details at www.brightboxtheater.com.

DJ Skyhigh at Brewbaker’s: Come dance the night away at Brewbaker’s in our pub area to DJ Skyhigh! No cover charge! Must be 21+ to enter after 10 pm.

Saturday, April 25th:

Historical Springtime Scavenger HuntSelf-guided historical scavenger hunts for the whole family. Purchase your tour map with clues at the Old Town General Store (106 S. Loudoun Street) on Saturday or Sunday. Visit the Old Town locations to pick up your treats and treasures (one treat per location, per tour map). Turn in your tour map when you’re done and receive a prize! Also, enter to win free ghost tour tickets. New tours available the first Saturday of each month. Tours for ages 12 and under are $9.99. Tours for ages 13 and up are $12.50.  Family 4-pack of tour maps is $29.99.

Book Signing: Caren Werlinger – Turning for Home: The Winchester Book Gallery hosts author Caren Werlinger for a book signing from 11am to 1pm.

Historical Cemetery Tours: Come join us as we take you on a journey through the past at two historical cemeteries tucked away in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The tours begin at Winchester National Cemetery and continue at Stonewall Cemetery. You have the option of touring one or both cemeteries. $8.00 per person for one tour, $15.00 for both tours.
