Happening This Weekend

Friday, April 10th:

Winchester/Frederick County TRIAD 2015 Senior Festival: The Senior Festival will be held on Friday, April 10 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Braddock Street United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. TRIAD is a partnership between the local sheriff’s offices, police department, seniors and senior service providers in the community who work together to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly. The local Seniors and Law Enforcement Together Council (S.A.L.T. Council) includes representatives from the Winchester Police Department, Winchester City Sheriff’s Office, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, more than a dozen senior service providers, and local seniors.

WAM! presents Moments in MotionThe Winchester Art Market aka WAM! is proud to present photographer Li Chen and his Moments in Motion photo dance series. This gallery curated event is a showcase from over 200 images Li has personally photographed over the course of 5 years. The images are mostly of Shenandoah University dancers, and the timing of this event couldn’t have come any sooner. This weekend is the Spring Dance Concert, a showcase of this year’s SU talent.

The Art of Poetry: April is National Poetry Month and Winchester is celebrating its poetic side with special events! The creative and eclectic newly opened shop, Pebble in a Pond, is hosting the JHHS/DMMS Poetry Club’s Open House, “The Art of Poetry” which will be featuring visual art created by the Poetry Club. Art will stay on display at Pebble in a Pond (16 S Braddock St) for the month of April.

WBG 2nd Friday Game Night: Join the Winchester Book Gallery for a great night of fun for all ages. All kinds of games and all kinds of folks. Bring your friends, bring your kids, bring your kids’ friends, bring your friends’ kids.

Chuck & Sherrie LIVE in The Half Note Lounge!: Acoustic guitarist and vocalist playing an eclectic mix from the classics to contemporary at the George Washington Hotel’s Half Note Lounge from 8pm to 10pm.

Afro Bop Alliance (Latin Jazz): Grammy-winning Latin Jazz septet that always thrill audiences with their infectious polyrhythmic grooves, harmonic colorings, and improvisational flights. Doors at 7pm, Show at 8pm.

Saturday, April 11th:

Historical Cemetery ToursCome join us as we take you on a journey through the past at two historical cemeteries tucked away in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The tours begin at Winchester National Cemetery and continue at Stonewall Cemetery. You have the option of touring one or both cemeteries. $8.00 per person for one tour, $15.00 for both.

Historical Springtime Scavenger HuntSelf-guided historical scavenger hunts for the whole family. Purchase your tour map with clues at the Old Town General Store (106 S. Loudoun Street). Visit the Old Town locations on Saturdays between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to pick up your treats and treasures (one treat per location, per tour map). Turn in your tour map when you’re done and receive a prize! Also, enter to win free ghost tour tickets. New tours available the first Saturday of each month. Tours for ages 12 and under are $9.99. Tours for ages 13 and up are $12.50.  Family 4-pack of tour maps is $29.99.

Rally in the Alley: Rally in the Alley is coming back for more on Sunday April 12, 2015 from 12pm to 6pm. The event helps to celebrate Old Town Winchester neighbors in a friendly block party held on Indian Alley. Rally in the Alley features live music, local food, beer & wine, crafters, and fun for the kids. Square Dancing w/ Bud’s Collective: Put on your boots, grab your hat, and get ready for a night of square dancing fun with skilled square dance caller Brad Saylor and award-winning bluegrass greats, Bud’s Collective. Dance the night away or sit, watch, and tap your feet along to the music while you enjoy some dinner and drinks! Don’t know how to square dance?
