The Bluemont Summer Concert Series kicks off this week with a performance by Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer. The concert takes place on the steps of the 1840 Frederick County Court House at 7:30 PM this Friday.
Band Bio: Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer are a powerhouse of sound, with a repertoire of traditional and contemporary folk, old-time country and swing music. Their superb harmonies are backed by instrumental virtuosity on the acoustic and electric guitar, five-string banjo, mandolin, pennywhistle, hammered dulcimer, percussion and many other instruments. Rather than fit neatly in to a niche, Cathy and Marcy bring the traditional and contemporary, folk, bluegrass, swing and unclassifiable music together in their shows.
Together for more than 20 years, the duo sing about a range of topics, from heart songs to labor songs, history to today’s news, comedy about middle age and parenting. They have received numerous Grammy nominations for their children’s and family music and their album Bon Appétit! won the 2004 GRAMMY Award for Best Musical Album for Children.
Admission: While there are no advance ticket sales, requested admission for the events is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends & Seniors, and $2 for kids under 12. Bluemont is also raising money to support their year-round projects in our local schools, nursing homes, and summer evenings.
