The family of late actor Michael Landon is no stranger to the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. In 1980 – during his peak years on “Little House on the Praire” – Michael’s daugher Leslie Ann served as Queen Shenandoah LIII. In 1996, Leslie’s sister Shawna Leigh served as Queen Shenandoah LXIX, and in 2009, Michael Landon, Jr.’s daughter Ashley Taylor Landon served as Queen Shenandoah LXXXII. The Landon family will once again make the trip from California to Winchester as SABF President Lou Ann Thompson has announced that Rachel Lynn Matthews, daughter of Leslie Ann Landon Matthews, will serve our magical realm as “Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI, Queen of the Valley’s Springtime Blossoms.”
19-year old Rachel is following in her grandfather’s footsteps and is currently studying to be an actress while pursuing a degree at the Tisch School of the Arts for Musical Theatre at New York University.
“I am so blessed to live such an amazing life and share it with those I love most,” My family is my first priority and they are always there for me. Growing up as the oldest has taught me so much about responsibility and taking chances because I had to be the first one out of all my siblings to experience everything for the first time. It has taught me to be bold and courageous, as well as responsible. My friends and family are most important to me because I know no matter what happens, at the end of the day they will always be my rock.”
“I absolutely LOVE apple pie!” she continued. “Not to mention, apple is my favorite fruit and I have about three a day. I will never turn down a good piece of apple pie!”
Festival Organizers are still working out the details of Rachel’s schedule; but, it will, as always, contain many, many stops, including all the traditional appearances. The details of the appearances of members of the Queen’s family are also being worked out.
