On March 24th at 7pm, a candlelight ceremony will take place at the Mt. Hebron Cemetery to remember the soldiers who died during the First Battle of Kernstown in 1862. The ceremony will also include a reading of the names of the fallen soldiers from the battle.
The ceremony will memorialize those in the Stonewall Confederate Cemetery, followed by a second ceremony at the National Cemetery across Woodstock Lane to memorialize the Union fallen in that battle.
The group will walk between the Confederate and National cemeteries, then back again at the conclusion to retrieve their cars. A flashlight, walking shoes and warm clothing are suggested.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Kernstown Battlefield Association.
