Facing financial issues, the United States Postal Service earlier this year announced a list of proposed location closures. The Old Town office, which has served the Loudoun Street Mall for over 30 years, was on the list and is currently under consideration for being shut down. The proposed closure will affect all who use the facility, including government agencies, local businesses, attorneys, banks, law enforcement agencies, and hundreds of residents.
If you want to voice your concern, the United States Postal Authorities will be conducting a public meeting on Wednesday, November 30th at James Wood Middle School at 6pm to hear comments on why the Loudoun Street Post Office should remain open. Questionnaires regarding the closure are also available at the office itself, and are asked to be filled out by November 23.
For elderly residents and those who cannot drive, transportation can be arranged by calling (540)-667-0081 at least two days before the meeting.
Further questions about the discontinuance of service may be directed to Dennis Voorhees at (540)-667-3352.
