Old Town Halloween Spooktacular events postponed

All events scheduled to take place on the Loudoun Street Mall today have been postponed to next Saturday, November 5. Event times remain the same. Guess the TRICK is on us! Enjoy the snow!

On Saturday, November 5, 2011 Old Town Winchester is hosting a Spooktacular Halloween Festival for all ages. The event includes a guided ghost tour for ages 12 and over, and entertainment plus traditional trick-or-treating for younger children. There is no admission fee and it is open to the public.

1. Guided Ghost Tours at 11:00 am – Everyone loves a great ghost story…..hear some true tales that are told on our ghost tour, “A Ghostly Winchester Experience”. Since being founded in 1752, Winchester’s rich history and excellent written documentation by the townspeople has provided endless accounts of strange, ghostly experiences. This unique blend certainly qualifies us as a truly haunted city. According to our tour guide, local-historian Sandy Jones, “there could be a couple of opportunities for participants to have a possible ghostly experience. We’ll let you decide…” The free, one-hour tour is offered at 11:00 am and again at 6:00 pm meeting at the south end of the Loudoun Street Mall at Cork Street and is appropriate for ages 12 and over.

2. Waiters Race hosted by WXVA 610AM Radio at 2:00 pm. Competitive races by our favorite downtown waiters. Center of Loudoun Street Mall.

3. Old Town Winchester Halloween Trick or Treat event from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Young ghosts and goblins, ages 12 and under, have a perfect place to celebrate Halloween, show off their costumes and enjoy an afternoon full of live entertainment and trick-or-treating in a safe environment on the Old Town Mall.

Entertainment with Peter McCory’s a one-man band show, begins at 3:30 pm through 5:00 pm performing in the center of the Mall in front of the Old Frederick County Courthouse. Since 1996 Peter McCory has been playing music kids love — familiar children’s songs, nursery rhyme favorites and folk songs! He also plays his own award-winning original music for kids. Whatever he plays, his lively, interactive performances are fun and educational. While singing and strumming guitar, banjo or ukulele, he’s also tooting harmonicas, kazoos and whistles. Then, with his feet, he plays drums, cymbals and a cow bell… all at the same time!

Beginning promptly at 4:00 pm…and not one minute sooner, costumed children can visit participating merchants to “Trick-or-Treat” to gather goodies and treats. McGruff the Crime Dog will make a special appearance too.

4. Guided Ghost Tours at 6:00 pm by Sandy Jones. Meet at the south end of Loudoun Street Mall (Cork Street). Free tour, limited to first 25.

The Spooktacular Halloween Festival is sponsored by participating Old Town merchants and the Old Town Development Board. Special thanks to the Winchester Police Department, McGruff the Crime Dog, and our generous merchants. Parking is free on Saturdays at all meters on the streets and in public parking lots and there is ample parking in all three parking garages for only $0.50 per hour.
